Gemma is an Italian Trattoria located on the ground floor of The Bowery Hotel which is located at 335 Bowery. I picked that restaurant because I was meeting a friend to see a show at La MaMa Ellen Stewart Theatre which is located at 66 East 4th Street and it was a perfect location.
I must admit that I went into the hotel by mistake while the restaurant was on the corner.
Here’s the hotel and then the restaurant on the corner…
And here is the inside bar and dining area…
So what did I decide to order? I had read that Chef Andrea Taormini creates rustic, seasonal cuisine and pairs it with an extensive Italian wine list. However, it was 12:30 and we were on the Brunch menu and so I decided to keep it simple and healthy and decided to order Avocado Toast with radishes, roasted sunflower seeds, less the Maldon Salt (Googled itLol-is premium all-natural sea salt which has a clean taste with no bitterness) and with that added 2 sliced hard boiled eggs.
It was sooooooooooo fabulous. The bread was a heavy crusted grain type of bread and the avocado puree was diiivine. The roasted sunflower seeds and that very lightly shredded radishes were an unbelievable combination.
As a matter of fact I was so impressed with this choice that I can’t wait to go back to have it again!
That’s about the highest compliment that I can pay to any restaurant! So check it out!
