Another day in Cyprus and another learning experience. A friend of mine drove me to Nicosia which is the capital of Cyprus. There is a lot of ongoing division in Cyprus, known as the Cyprus problem or the Cyprus conflict. As of this moment, Nicosia, also called Lefkosia in Greek and Lefkosa in Turkish has the unique distinction of being not only the capital of Cyprus but also the most recently divided capital of the world with half being held by the Turkish. It’s a complicated history but in simple terms from a girl originally from BrooklynLol, think of Putin and Ukraine and there you have it. Only Putin won.

So I found Nicosia interesting because once you walk through the Greek held part you come to a Passport Control Area where you enter the occupied area held by the Turkish. Once we went through the Passport Control Area we wandered through the occupied area and then back to the Greek side to get back to Limassol.
