Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford Museum

My last stop before flying back from my Midwest Tour was Detroit, Michigan. I feel really blessed to have had an opportunity to visit The Henry Ford Museum and the adjoining Greenfield Village. To write about both in just one post is just too much so in this post I’ll share with you on interesting activity in Greenfield Village and one interesting exhibit in The Henry Form Museum but first a little backgroundon both.

Greenfield Village

In Greenfield Village you will get to experience firsthand America’s can do spirit. You get to explore over 80 acres full of resourcefulness and ingenuity. Greenfield Village showcases 300 years of Americans perseverance which make American what it is today and that anything is possible. You get to visit the lab where Thomas Edison had his lightbulb moment, or the workshop whee the Wright brothers taught us to reach for the sky. You get to visit Mark Twain’s house and Noah Webster’s house and the list goes on and on.

Below you’ll find a photo where I got to experience what a ride in a Model T Ford would have been. It was so fun and really amazing to feel this “step back” in time.

Now after several hours in Greenfield Village I walked over to the Museum.

Let me tell you that I think aside from The Metropolitan Museum of Art I think that this is the very best museum that I have ever had the choice to visit.

It was so fascinating and the exhibits were endless. There were the limousines that each president used and what was kind of surreal was the one that President Kennedy was shot in.

What I found to be the most interesting exhibit and maybe because it was interactive was their exhibit on Civil Rights. They had the actual bus that Rosa Parks was arrested in and I got the opportunity (which was really amazing to me…) to sit in the seat from which she was arrested. I’ve always felt that she was such a brave woman in the history of America and the Civil Rights Movement that to sit in that seat was really transforming for me.

Here are some images from the exhibit.

So if you find yourself in Detroit, don’t hesitate to visit both Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford Museum.

They’re both spectacular and so rich in American History!
