HOSOO Fabrics: A Time Honored Tradition

This evening I was witness to some of the most amazing textile fabric that I have ever seen.  I attended Fashion Friday at The National Arts Club www.thenationalartsclub.org and the talk was named HOSOO-More than Textile.

HOSOO is a Kyoto-based textile company which was founded in 1688 and which specializes in fabrics for high-end interior design and fashion.  HOSOO’s history can be traced back to the Kyoto silk industry of the sixth century and today the company is widely recognized for its exceptional skills within traditional Japanese three-dimensional weaving techniques and for applying richly textured Nishijin weaving to contemporary design.

So here are some of the fabrics that were part of this evening’s presentation:

I will admit that seeing the fabrics in person lets you witness the vibrancy and the design details more than a photo can show but I hope that you get a sense of the quality and the craft that goes into these patterns and designs.

Today HOSOO has branched out into having its fabrics unite with high end fashion houses like Chanel and Dior and with high ends cameras, shoes, art installations and furniture design as well.
