Pop Up Dinner Theater Experience

The other evening I went with a friend to see the Pop Up Dinner Theater, a bespoke theatrical dining experience from Suite 524 which was presented by LDV Hospitality and Barlume. Barlume is a restaurant which is located at 900 Broadway and which reflects the sun-soaked flavors of the Mediterranean. Barlume first opened its flagship property at 900 Broadway but has since also hosted seasonal restaurant pop-up locations in The Algarve, Portugal and in Marbella, Spain.

Now upon arrival, we were welcomed into the downstairs bar for cocktails and canapes. Seating in this space is unreserved and the guests were encouraged to stand, mingle and just enjoy the atmosphere. Stools and long couches were available should you not want to stand but once the performance began, you are able to move about the space to be able to enjoy your best decided upon vantage point.

After the first play in the bar area you were then guided to your reserved seats in the dining room, where the next three courses were served and paired with its own performance.

What I learned was that this semi-immersive experience, this version of Pop Up Dinner Theater was created to “unfold in the space around you.” At times, the performers may interact directly with guests as part of the storytelling while at other times you are free to move about the space as you would in any other restaurant,

So here are some images that reflect the experience.

The Reception in the Bar area.

The Canapes served in the Bar area.

Grilled Halloumi with Smoked Eggplant

Next it was into the dining room to our reserved seats.

The Dinner included…

The most fabulous pita bread.

Fava Bean Hummus, Spinach Tzatziki, Charred Red Pepper and Walnuts and Whipped Ricotta.

You had the choice of main dish and I chose Chicken Kebab with roasted peppers, tomatoes and yogart. It was great!

And let’s not forget the fabulous dessert, Tiramisu. It was the best Tiramisu that I have ever tasted with lady fingers, mascarpone and cocoa powder.

And last but by no means least here are two scenes that were acted act through the entire dining experience at the very front of the dining room.

So if you’re looking for a different type of dining experience then check out Barlume’s Downstairs and see what’s happening!
