Welcome to Cairns

I loved Cairns.

Cairns is a three hour and 15 minute flight from Sydney and is the tropical gateway to its spectacular natural attraction which is The Great Barrier Reef.

In 1981 The Great Barrier Reef was established as a World Heritage Site and was designated as such for it’s “Outstanding Universal Value” being recognized as the world’s most extensive coral reef ecosystem. We explored the vibrant, colorful world of the Reef at the Moore Reef which is at the very center of the Great Barrier Reef.

We got there by cruising the water by catamaran to the Great Adventures pontoon where we found and saw a beautifully, diverse ecosystem. We feed the fish from the unique underwater platform and had a once-in-a-lifetime-experience exploring one of the seven natural wonder of the world whether we went into the water or not. The pontoon was set up to let us have that experience either way!

Here are some photos of Cairn and The Great Barrier Reef Experience.

Here are some photos from The Great Barrier Reef Experience. It took about an hour and a half to take the ship to the anchored down pontoon. Here we ate, enjoyed the scenery, got to see the coral and the more adventurous folk, swam, snorkeled and scuba dived.

The smaller ship that brought us to the anchored down pontoon.

The anchored down pontoon.
