The other evening I attended an event at The National Arts Club called FashionSpeak Fridays:Back to School.
The fashion event celebrated all things collegiate starting with a display of all memorabilia from the world of The Ivy League Universities. This installation was displayed by The Fine and Dandy Shop Archives which is located at 445 W. 49th St., New York, NY.
Then author, Rebecca C. Tuite who is a fashion historian and writer based in New York City presented a slide show based on her book Seven Sisters Style which explored the relationship of the woman Ivy Leaguer and the history of her preppy clothes choices which then became part of fashion history which is still copied today by Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hillfinger.
And so here are several of the people at the event that decided to honor the preppy event theme and put together their preppy finest,,,
Actually the above photo is of Leah Durner and Jack Carlson whose book Rowing Blazers was just released yesterday!!
And to then top off this interesting and educationally centered FashionSpeaks event, author Jeffrey Banks who wrote the book Preppy: Cultivating Ivy Style gave us further insight on the origin of preppy clothing and how today it’s been truly democratized and is today worn by everyone!
So if you’d like to learn more about collegiate dressing and the preppy look then check these two interesting and educational books, have fun and try the “preppy!”
