The other evening I was privileged to attend an event at The National Arts Club which presented a Medal of Honor for Achievement in Fashion to William Ivey Long.
Now being a passionate theater goer, it was really thrilling to meet Mr. Long and to hear about all his accomplishments in the theater which brought him to the podium to accept this award.
So just who is William Ivy Long?
Mr. Long is a six time Tony Award-winning costume designer who recently did the designs for On the Twentieth Century and It Shoulda Been You which are presently on Broadway. His other Broadway credits include Cabaret, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cindereall, Bullets over Broadway, Hugh Jackman: Back on Broadway, Grey Gardens, The Producers, Hairspray, Contact, Crazy for You, Guys and Dolls and the list goes on and on…
In addition, Mr. Long’s costumes also recently made their Metropolitan Opera debut for The Merry Widow.
Mr. Long has also costumed Mick Jagger, Siegfried and Roy, The Pointer Sisters, Joan Rivers and for choreographers Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Peter Martins, David Parsons and Susan Stroman.
So need I say more, just what a thrill it was to be at The National Arts Club, meet this amazing man and be part of the evening’s event.
So below are some of the costumes that Mr. Ivey designed.
Enjoy!
