The other evening I attended a very interesting and educational event which featured the renowned hat designer, extraordinaire, Patricia Underwood.  Ms. Underwood did presentation from her new book entitled Patricia Underwood-The Way You Wear Your Hat.

This wonderful book was written by Jeffrey Banks who is an internationally recognized fashion designer and who is also the author of Tartan: Romancing the Plaid, Preppy: Cultivating the Ivy Style and Perry Ellis: An American Original.

Now Ms. Underwood’s presentation was both interesting and very educational…

She shared that throughout her career that she has maintained a philosophy of creating hats which flatter the wearer’s appearance and complemented her clothing and she has more than excelled in her definition of that mission.

So in recognition of her outstanding hat design work, Ms. Underwood has received a COTY award, a CFDA award and an American Accessories Achievement award.  What I also learned about Ms. Underwood is that she has collaborated with some of America’s most prestigious designers such as Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Marc Jacobs and Badgley Mischka.  In addition, Ms. Underwood’s hats have been seen on the Broadway stage and on the heads of some of the most famous women in the world such as Nicole Kidman, Isabella Rossellini and Penelope Cruz.

At present, Ms. Underwood is a board member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America and her work is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute, the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Philadelphia Art Museum.

So let’s look below are some of the event’s attendees who are truly showing us-“That it’s the way you wear your hat!”
