It’s Restaurant Week in New York City and so a friend of mine suggested that we go to Gramercy Tavern which is located at 42 East 20th Street. Now usually eating at Gramercy Tavern in their back dining room area is $175 prix-fixed. So to our delight, our lunch was $60 because the Tavern is part of Restaurant Week. Wow! Lucky us!
Now as noted on their web site, Gramercy Tavern is “One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests to enjoy its contemporary American cuisine, warm hospitality, and unparalleled service in New York City for over two decades. Chef Michael Anthony’s ever-evolving seasonal menu showcases the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors.
Opened in 1994 by restaurateur Danny Meyer in a historic landmark building just north of Union Square, the restaurant has earned nine James Beard Awards, including “Outstanding Restaurant” and “Outstanding Chef in America”.”
Well, I think the photos will take you through the experience which was great and I hope to return to The Tavern in the not so far distant future.

Here is the inside called The Tavern (less formal and different menu choices) than The Dining Room where we ate.

Here is where we ate which is called The Dining Room.

Here is the Restaurant Week Menu at $60.

So before I tell you what I chose from each part of the menu, this was the first plate put on the table before we even ordered.

This little square on this plate was a tale unto itself. It was Golden Beet Tartare on rye bread and underneath was creme fraiche with a bit of dill. So tasty!

Then for the Starter as Menu shared, I chose Broccolini Salad with Almonds, Raisins and Freekah. Sooo fresh and healthy tasting. It got me ready for the rest of the meal!

For the main course of the meal I chose Brussel Sprouts with Lentils, Pine Nuts and Apricots. graced with a circle of greens. Just think Chicken Pot Pie but only it looked like below. It was just a delight! The combination of the flavors and the textures really rocked.

Now for dessert, I decided to have the Apple and Quince Tart with Cinnamon, Caramel and Pecans. I loved the size of it…smallLol. I felt must better about having the whole thing and not concerning myself about the calorieslol plus it tasted just great!

OK, you know that at this point that it was time for a cup of black coffee, to help me navigate resting from the meal which was just great.

Oh, but just when I thought that the dining experience was over this showed up.Lol

It was a Bon Bon which had bleed orange jam with chocolate and chai ganache in dark chocolate with gold dust. Need I say more!
So definitely check out Gramercy Tavern if you’re in the area. You can dine either in The Tavern part of the restaurant (as I noted less formal) or The Dining Room part and have a very special meal. The choice is yours but check it out all the same.
