Ayers Rock (Uluru)

The day after we spent in Alice Spings we headed to Uluru (the Aboriginal name for Ayers Rock) in the heart of the Australian Outback.

This famous huge monolith with its sandstone domes known as Kata Tjuta were created through both upheaval and erosion. We toured the base of “The Rock” and learned about its geology and its sacred significance to the Aboriginal people and their culture. What I learned was that in 1985 official ownership of Uluru/Ayers Rock was given to the local Aboriginal people, who then leased the rock and the national park to he federal government for 99 years.

But the most exciting of all was witnessing the changing colors of Uluru at sunset accompanied my a champagne toast.
