Three Ways to Let Your Chair Get You Thin

Made smaller=

“What!” you’re probably thinking to yourself, “How can where I sit possibly help me lose weight?”  Well, whatever your weight-loss program or even if you’re on maintenance, where you sit to eat, either in your home, office or dorm room can greatly influence your weight loss.

So let’s see how…

First let’s talk about how where you sit in your home can influence not only your weight-loss but will make weight loss or maintenance an easier practice.

The first thing that you have to do at home is to always eat in the same chair.  Making the choice to always sit in the same chair when you eat will bring a certain amount of boredom and predictability to your eating experience.  That boredom and predictability will let you get up from your chair faster once you’ve finished eating.  That’s because you’ll be more interested in getting to your next non-eating activity then remaining seated in that “same” chair.

Now another helpful hint is to know what you’re going to do “after” you eat.  That will give you a greater sense of motivation to get up after you’ve had enough.  So what will you be doing after you eat?  Planning for it can help you eat and stop yourself sooner than later.

So now how does this idea of eating in the same chair at home apply to your place of business (if you work)?

Well, let’s say you pack your lunch every day and eat at the office either at your desk or in the company’s cafeteria.  What you should do is always sit in the same seat whether it’s the one at your desk, your neighbor’s desk or the chair in your office cafeteria.

Again, the reason that you want to do that is again to bring a certain amount of boredom and predictability to part of your eating experience.  Again, this boredom and predictability will let you get up faster from your chair when you’ve finished eating.  That’s because you’ll be more interested in getting to your next non-eating activity which could be a short walk or a long one is you’re lucky.  So as when eating at home it also helps to know what your next activity is after you eat at work as a motivation to leave your chair faster than not after you’ve had enough.

Now, last but not least let’s say that you’re a student and you live in a dorm.  If that’s the case, then it’s also important to sit in the same chair every time you eat or at least at the same table in the school cafeteria.  As previously mentioned sitting in the same chair each time you eat will bring boredom and predictability to part of your eating experience.  That boredom and predictability will again make it much easier to stop eating sooner than later.

It also wouldn’t hurt if you knew what you wanted to do after you finished eating and use that as a motivator.

So if you’re ready to eat in the same chair whether you eat at home, in your office or in your dorm and you’re ready to give some thought about what your next non-eating activity will be after you’ve eaten to help you leave your chair, then let your chair help you lose your weight.

Does where you sit and eat either at home or at work (if you work) support your weight loss challenge and if not, are you ready to change that?
