Rita Hayworth : Goddess of Glam

In 3 days, on October 17th, 2018 Rita Hayworth would have been 100 years old.  At the National Arts Club this past Friday an event was held to celebrate this Goddess of Glam.

Ms. Haworth was a self-described “Spanish peasant”, who began her dancing career by performing with her father in nightclubs as the Dancing Casinos. Then she was twirled across soundstages on the arm of Fred Astaire as Hollywood’s “love goddess.” Rita Hayworth was a talent to be reckoned with and a glamour girl for the ages.

Here’s a picture of her on the screen at the club.

At this event, in honor of her 100th birthday author and film historian Cindy Le La Hoz put on an exploration of Ms. Hayworth’s history with a very interesting slide show.

Through rare slide  photos and stunning film clips this program examined the fascinating transformation of Margarita Carmen Cansino into the all American sweetheart Rita Hayworth.  So in a glamorous film career that spanned decades, Rita’s fashion style was also highlighted in this screen show and Ms. Hayworth worked with top studio designers such as Travis Banton, Irene and most significantly, Jean Louis.

As the advertisements for their most famous film, Gilda declared, “There never was a woman like Gilda!”  There was never a woman like Rita either.
